If You Speak Any Faster

SAMUEL. in Hebrew it means "God Hears".

I have a confession to make.  I know I am not the only one that has done this. [shame ON US!]   Sometimes in mass, I wander in my mind.  Anyway, today, God really wanted me to hear Him out.  We always tell God, "speak to me, and I will listen", but we often fail to do so.  The Gospel was about Samuel.  If you do not know about him, I suggest you read up on it because I do not want my blog to be the source of understanding [won't help].  The priest's homily touched base on really listening to God.  All those times we felt emptiness or felt dissatisfied with ourselves or felt like we were lacking some sense of purpose in our daily bouts, God was softly speaking to us.  "Find your happiness" He seems to be saying. The priest today said that to find happiness you need to find your vocation.  I am realizing now that this does not just mean your overall vocation in life [marriage, priesthood, being a nun, etc] but the vocation for this moment in time or any moment tomorrow and so on.  Your vocation is your calling.  What is God calling you to do in your life at this very moment?  In the back of a certain prayerbook, it says "when you speak to God, come simply" [or something to that extent].  God understands our hearts best so we should simply ask him what it is he wants us to do.  We always say "let your will be done" but we seldom allow ourselves to listen. Sometimes we do not want to listen because of the fear that we might get the response we do not want to hear so we start to assume.  Maybe we listen to God, but we do not follow through. We know what to do yet we do not do it, that's not listening.  OTHER times--In lieu of listening, we spend the entirety of our time waiting for a response...waiting but not LISTENING.  We tend to wait for a big sign from God like a huge posterboard saying something like "NO" when we ask that yes or no question.  Softly He is speaking to us.  What is God saying to you now?  Are you allowing Him to speak to you?  Are you listening but not following through?  Let's let God speak to us and respond.

where is the fine line between a Christian holiday and a holiday celebrated by everyone in the world? where is it blurred and why is it seemingly taboo to have one overrule the other?  Never in the history of America has this tradition [which surpasses America's birth] been questioned.  It is a holiday because of Christ's birth...therefore it is Christmas.  It is not Krissmas in which kriss kringle plays an important role, but CHRISTmas in which God plays an even greater role.  I am sure many of us watched "miracle on 34th street".  Why not put Christ in the position of the man who was kriss kringle?  Millions upon millions believe in Christ as they do with santa klaus, so why should we question this tradition as well?  Everyone has generally accepted that santa claus is based on St. Nicholas [a man living his life in Christ's likeness], so why can we not accept that Christmas is based on Christ's birth? Why is it that santa klaus is free to go, but the one who started it all must be put into hiding to "better suit" this changing culture?  Christ is deeply embedded in the history of America..."In God We Trust", the start of EASTER, the reason we all get presents on the 24th...and yet we are trying to hide his purpose in this season.  Santa Klaus even parallels our Lord.  He lives in the North Pole, it's existence is questionable but the true believers know it is there [like heaven]..Kriss kringle determines who is good and who is bad..he rewards the good with things that they desire.. [sound familiar?].  Towns are changing "Christmas trees" to "Holiday trees" and "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays"..if we are taking it this far..why not take out "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and other loved Christmas songs bearing the name of Jesus off the playlist of 106.7!  What will happen to the poor children of our culture who will be confused when someone says Merry Christmas??  Is it not the beloved Santa Klaus who can be heard saying "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night?"  I suppose we will have to change our storybooks as well..including....the magical "T'was the Night Before Christmas".  I fear in this changing society, that our children's children's children's ..................FRIENDS [because we Christians will make sure that the Christ in Christmas is not forgotten, right?] will not be able to enjoy the full effect and meaning of Christmas.  I will end this entry with the cry of the seussical nation that reflects my exact thoughts on this season...."wheeereee areee youuu Chriiistmasssss??? i CANNOT fiiind youu"

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!! long time no xanga!!! THOUGHT id update. FIRST OFF..so allan houston finally retired.  He started things off with a prayer---so like him to do that! Although it has been very heartbreaking, I know this is all for the best.  BIG UPS TO AL HOU! :] So freshman year, fall semester, is coming to a clooose.  My schedule involves these courses:

Biology113 [+lab]Gen. Chem I [+lab] Acting I, English 105, Bio 199 freshman seminar

spring semester will involve:

Biology112 [+lab], Gen. Chem II [+lab], English 106, Stats 109 and Gen. Humanities

I am doing fine.  I really miss a lot of people, but school has been challenging me everyday and to take breaks leads to the fatal consequences of my grades.  I miss Bif, I miss Sbff, I miss pretzel, I miss the hs champs, I miss my multicultural heroes, I miss a lot of people.  ANYWAY...I cannot wait till every station on the radio and every store in the mall plays Christmas music.  There is nothing like hearing Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is You" on a lovely saturday morning.

Now, on a serious note, the priest in our mass brought a very interesting point on Sunday.  We are continually pushing Jesus to the side.  Do you remember the quote, "Jesus is the reason for the season?"  The average American way of life continues to forget this.  Christmas is now called "winter festival" and the Christ in Christmas is disregarded.  Our special words are being assimilated into a world where religion must always be separated from state.  I am getting very sad.  The pledge of allegiance, 10 commandments outside a courthouse, prayer in the mornings---these are things I was privileged to witness growing up and I would want my kids to be raised in America with the same priviliges.  With the crazy tactics of society now..the next thing you know, we will not even be allowed to have "In God We Trust" on the dollar bill----symbolism you may ask? the decrease in value of the dollar.....i do not think it is a coincidence, but rather a cry from God.  We must continue to pray and let our faith be known.

current goal: find out if i am really allergic to the fruits i say i am allergic to.
